Dreamcatcher

Do you remember your dreams? Do you ever wonder what they might mean? Have you ever shared your dreams with others?

I have had vivid dreams since I was a small child so I was excited when I found out about dreamcatcher.net. Dreamcatcher is a social website for sharing your dreams. Once you log on you can create an account with a username and start logging dreams. Dreamcatcher is similar to other social networking pages in that you can 'friend' other users and follow them and vice versa. After typing out your dream you also have the option to attach images to better express your description. My favorite feature of the site is that it will select key words from your text and give you an interpretation of what dreaming about that word could mean. Super fun!

I had my first account on dreamcatcher for over a year and had logged a fair amount of entries. Now that so much has changed in my life and I feel like I have started over, I have cancelled my old account and have started a fresh one. I am looking forward to logging many new dreams and hope some of you might try dreamcatcher too! Happy dreaming!

Teach To Inspire Yoga

MaMa Jean's  S. Campbell location.

When Mark and I moved to Oz in June of last year I had already made up my mind that I would find a yoga studio to continue my practice. I had been taking classes at Darling Yoga in Kansas City and was sad to be leaving the wonderful teachers and students there. I knew I had my work cut out for me if I was going to find a school just as awesome in a smaller town.

After we got settled into our new home I began researching the yoga studios in Springfield (we don't have any in Oz) and comparing schedules, styles of classes, and prices. I tried classes at a few different schools and although they were fun, nothing felt like the right fit. I wanted to study under a teacher that inspired me not someone who just led us through the poses. After digging a little deeper I stumbled upon the Teach To Inspire web page. I was impressed with everything I saw and after reading the story of the director and teacher, Beth Spindler, I was ready to take a class from her. Her school is a non-profit and she also does teacher training. A part of her yoga teacher training is community outreach and I really liked that aspect too.

A few days later I google mapped the location of the studio and set out for my first class. As I approached the small business strip it was located in I got goose bumps...Teach To Inspire was in the EXACT building I had met Mark in sixteen years ago when it was the karate studio! (click the link to check out the web page for AAction Kenpo Karate at its current location.) I saw this coincidence as a sign from the Universe.

Beth greeted me as I walked through the door. She has a beautiful aura about her that set me at ease. Her class was fun and challenging even for an all levels basics class. She incorporated breathing exercises (pranayama) and fused several styles of yoga into a seamless session. I knew I had found my school. I was hooked! As the weeks rolled on I attended some of the other classes taught by different teachers and although I enjoyed them, it was Beth's classes that I most looked forward to.

A few months later us students were told that the non-profit was being dissolved and that after the first of the year Beth would be teaching at a new location. This was shocking at first. I had many questions...where would we end up? How many classes would she teach at this new location? What else would be changing? I tried to put it out of my mind and wait for the answers.

Weeks later Beth decided to partner with MaMa Jean's Market, a locally owned health food store. They have a community room she would use in the south side location at 1727 S. Campbell in Springfield. I had been to a fermenting class in that space before so I was familiar with the set up. This could work!

The first class, a yoga party really, was on January 1st. A lot of people came and we had a great time! My drive is a little farther than before but the classes are really affordable and totally worth it! I am thankful that MaMa Jean's is renting us the space and we can continue to practice with Beth. The teacher training program is still alive and well too. Beth teaches some of those classes from her home studio. For class schedules, upcoming workshop information, and to read Beth's story visit teachtoinspire.org.

Change is a part of life. The adventure has just begun!

Weekend At Caroline's

My sister, Dallis, with Penny & Guinness

I want to dedicate a post to Penny's favorite place in Oz, Caroline's Pampered Pet Motel. Caroline's offers a safe and fun environment to leave your dog while on vacation. They also offer daycare. Penny loves her stays at Caroline's and never wants to leave when we come to pick her up! We have left her on several vacations and even a few weekends just to give her a chance to play with the other dogs and get groomed. Yes! They also provide very affordable grooming services, so Penny always comes home happy, worn-out and clean. The rooms are nice and much more affordable than the chain pet store in Springfield. Rooms are equipped with a bed, food and water bowls and a TV.

A room at Caroline's

Caroline's is open seven days a week from 6:30am-9:00pm. and located near CC and 65 hwy in Oz. Call (417) 581-9422 to make a reservation or visit http://www.carolinespamperedpetmotel.com/ for services, rates, pictures of the facility and additional info. and be sure to tell them Penny sent you!

Yogate

Yoga + Karate = Yogate

Mark and I spent last night setting up our second spare bedroom as a studio space for yoga/karate/meditation/reading. We had been using the room as an area to set up Penny's playpen so she would have her own space to sleep at night. Now that she is older she sleeps in her playpen in the basement. Here is what we've done with our reclaimed space...

Greeted by the Tibetan flag as you enter the room.

2013

A new year is here. Full of hope and anticipation for the future. I love this time of year, it feels like we get a do-over, a chance to wipe the slate clean... resolve to eat better, exercise more and give up our vices. A cleansing. A time to reflect and welcome challenge and ultimately, change.

I didn't write out any resolutions this year...something I have done for all of my adult life. I suppose this year I want to let go of expectations and just enjoy the ride. I want to learn to slow down and really, truly pay attention. I want to be kind to myself and let go of self- criticism. This year is about reconnecting with ME (and not feeling selfish about it either). If knowing love is the reason for our human BEING, then I am well on my way, but to love another, no matter how deeply or how true can never be enough if first you do not love yourself.

I will remember and honor and love the healer, the teacher, eager student, intuitive, loyal, fierce, and magnificent creature that I AM.
